Sunday Worship – Sunday July 2, 2023
Worship in the Park
Song lyrics, Scripture reading & Bulletin below. Or view as PDF
It's a holiday weekend, and the weather forecast is summery. Bring your lawn chair and, for old-time's (Covid-time's!) sake, let's meet on the south side of MacLean Park a little before 11am.
This Sunday, we're looking at the life of Solomon (though who wouldn't rather use his real--Hebrew--name: Shlomo?). So, was Shlomo a hero or a villain? What can Shlomo teach us about our own heroes and villains? Who are your own personal heroes and villains? Have you ever had a hero turn into a villain, or a villain into a hero? What does Shlomo teach us about the Gospel of the Ultimate Hero?

Verse 1
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory the King above all kingsVerse 2
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory the King above all kingsChorus
This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh Jesus I sing for all that You've done for meVerse 3
Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of Glory the King of GloryVerse 4
Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of Glory the King above all kingsBridge
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

Verse 1
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' Name
(REPEAT)Chorus
Christ alone cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm He is Lord
Lord of allVerse 2
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veilInterlude
He is Lord Lord of allVerse 3
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throneCCLI Song # 6158927

Verse 1
Nothing can separate
Even if I ran away
Your love never fails
I know I still make mistakes but
You have new mercies for me ev'ryday
Your love never failsChorus
(And) You stay the same through the ages
Your love never changes
There may be pain in the night
But joy comes in the morning
And when the oceans rage
I don't have to be afraid
Because I know that You love me
(Your love never fails)Verse 2
The wind is strong and the water's deep
But I'm not alone here in these open seas
Your love never fails
The chasm is far too wide
I never thought I'd reach the other side
Your love never failsBridge
You make all things
Work together for my good
You make all things
Work together for my goodCCLI Song # 5337172

1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. 2 The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. 3 He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord.
4 In Solomon’s old age, they turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the Lord his God, as his father, David, had been. 5 Solomon worshipped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites. 6 In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; he refused to follow the Lord completely, as his father, David, had done.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Prayer Matters
We pray for the flourishing of Chinatown. Recent changes such as the removal of street tents and this week's news of 105 Keefer property's conditional approval for development bring unique challenges to this neighbourhood. God, please teach us how to pray for the people. Help us to see things unseen, and recognize our own limitations in understanding and judgement. Open our hearts and minds to see you at work in all these.
Bless Faith and Jeffrey as they prepare for their wedding August 26, and for a life together of covenant love and faithfulness. We pray you would keep watch over Jeffrey and his groomsmen (Caleb, Ethan) as they are away together this weekend.
We pray for the three YWAM groups of young people who are staying here at Chinatown Peace Church throughout July, and experiencing the challenges and opportunities of the DTES.
